FAQs

What age is too late to learn drums?

It’s never too late to learn drums, but I do prefer working with younger students, typically 16 and under. In my experience, many adult students tend to cancel lessons, lose interest, or find it more challenging than they expected. However, if you’re an adult who’s serious about learning, feel free to give me a call, and we can discuss your goals!

Can I learn drums in 3 months?

Yes, you can learn the basics of drumming in 3 months with consistent practice and focused lessons! In that time, most students can get through my Level 1 book (the first of 9 levels) and will be able to play basic beats and fills. By then, you should also be able to play along with about 10 songs.

What age groups do you teach?

At Phoenix Drum Lessons, I teach children as young as 5 and teens. My lessons are tailored to each student's learning style, whether you're a beginner or improving your skills. Serious adult learners are welcome to contact me as well.

Do I need my own drum kit?

Yes, you’ll need your own drum kit. My curriculum focuses on full drum set learning from the start. You can begin lessons without one, but you'll want to have a kit at home within about 4 weeks. I can help guide you on what to buy, and sometimes I have a kit you can borrow until you get your own. The Alice Cooper Teen Center also gives away drum kits from time to time.

How long are the lessons?

My lessons are 30-minute private sessions held once a week. If a weekly schedule doesn’t work for you, drop-in lessons are an option, but since I’m usually fully booked, you’ll need to take any available spot when someone cancels.

What styles of drumming do you teach?

I teach the fundamentals with a focus on rock and pop, which form the foundation of popular music. Since rock drumming has roots in military marching techniques, it’s essential to have a basic understanding of that. My 72-lesson core curriculum also touches on jazz and Latin styles. Once you’ve completed the core, we can explore more specific styles in depth, but building that foundation is key from the start.

How much are 30-minute drum lessons?

My 30-minute drum lessons are offered at an affordable rate to make learning accessible to everyone. For exact pricing, please call 623-206-0634.
